O impasse de 150 anos entre as duas superpotências interestelares, o Império Galáctico e a Aliança dos Planetas Livres, chega ao fim quando surge uma nova geração de líderes: o génio militar idealista Reinhard von Lohengramm e o historiador reservado da FPA, Yang Wenli. Enquanto Reinhard sobe na hierarquia do Império com a ajuda de seu amigo de infância, Siegfried Kircheis, ele deve lutar não apenas na guerra, mas também contra os remanescentes da decadente Dinastia Goldenbaum, a fim de libertar sua irmã do Kaiser e unificar a humanidade sob um governante genuíno.
